The Department of Parks and Recreation offers many opportunities to learn and play the game of basketball. Introduce your child to the game, play the game in one of our recreational leagues or attend a fun-filled Summer Day Camp.


Classes are offered for children from ages 3 to 12 at some of our community center facilities. Certified instructors lead lessons to teach the skills necessary to learn the game. Here are the classes we have to offer:

Basketball Skills for ages 3 to 5. These classes are designed to introduce the elements of the game of basketball to your child. Students will learn to develop discipline, enjoy teamwork and improve coordination. These 30-45 minute classes have historically been held at these sites:

Basketball Skills (Children) for ages 6 to 12. These classes are designed to teach the skills of the game; dribbling, shooting and passing. Students will learn to develop discipline, enjoy teamwork, build a good work ethic and develop mental/physical toughness. Classes have historically been held at these sites:

Inter-Center Basketball (ICB) is Here!

NOTE: Out of an abundance of caution, the ICB Championship Games scheduled for Saturday, March 14, 2020 at UMD Richie Coliseum are being postponed. M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation will provide more information as we work to reschedule the games. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

It's that time of year for friendly - but competitive - center-to-center basketball leagues. Just a few things you need to know:

  • 2020 MNCPPC Inter-Center Basketball registration begins Saturday, October 5, 2019 (ages 5-17) at participating community centers for eight weeks. The fee is $60. Practice begins Monday, November 4. The season starts Saturday, January 4, 2020 and runs through Saturday, February 29, 2020.
  • Inter-Center Basketball Mandatory Coaches Clinic is Saturday, December 14, 2019, from 10 am to 12 pm noon at Wayne E. Curry Sports & Learning Complex, 8001 Sheriff Road, Landover, Maryland 20785. You must attend if you desire to be a coach in the league.
  • Inter-Center Basketball Parent Meeting is Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at 6:30 pm at Prince George's Ballroom, 2411 Pinebrook Avenue, Landover, Maryland 20785.

The Prince George’s County Boys & Girls Club Basketball League

The Department of Parks and Recreation supports this league. Basketball games are play in the Winter from January through March. Youth sports clubs are located all throughout the county. Leagues are set-up f the following age groups (i.e. 8u, 9u, 10u, 11u, 12u, 13u, 14u, 15/16u & 17/18u). League age is based on your child’s age as of January 1st of the current year.
